What requires a subscription and what doesn't
PYKL3 Radar is designed to be a highly useful program independent of third party subscription providers. That said, there are premium services which do require a subscription.
The choice as to invest in a subscription with one of our two supported providers is yours.
They are: AllisonHouse.com
The most common reason that people elect to purchase a subscription with one of these providers is for a higher availability of radar data during significant weather events. The free NWS servers, which adequate for most users, do become slow to respond and may not provide the latest radar data in a timely manner. At times, up to 45 minute delays in radar updates has been noted with large scale weather outbreaks. The providers above acquire their radar data from alternate NWS feeds that continue to operate more effectively.
There are no plans at this time for PYKL3Radar to require a subscription for basic NWS radar services.
Warning data is provide free of charge by both AllisonHouse and CaprockWeather.
